Vitamin deficiency - Recently it has been found that diabetes side effects may be related to a vitamin deficiency. Researchers have found that people with diabetes get rid of thiamine - vitamin B1 - from their bodies at 15 times the normal rate of people. Thiamine is said to get rid of complications such as heart disease and eye problems. Since this news, trials are now being carried out to see if supplementing diabetic’s diet with thiamine could return levels to normal.

The glycemic index multiplied by the amount of carbohydrates indicates the glycemic load of a particular food.

Another Type 1 Diabetes Gene - Another gene involved in type 1 diabetes has been found, known as KIAA0350. When added to the four genes that are already known to researchers, it brings them closer to finding all fifteen or more genes that may act together to cause type 1. Scientists believe that KIAA0350 produces a sugar protein which is found on the outside of immune cells and is involved in many immune system functions.
